Stealing a set of online poker blinds essentially gives you a free round of betting, and a free round of betting gives you an opportunity to be selective about your hands. This means you can fold every crummy hand you get for a dealer button’s lap around the table without putting a dent in your chip stack.

When (not if) you come upon the decision whether to make a play for the blinds, take a second to consider your situation. When the betting has come to you and everyone has folded, the table is showing weakness, so it’s a good time to try to make a play. You don’t know what the blinds are holding, so you are taking a risk. That in mind, try to leave yourself some outs in case you get called. If you’ve got an Ace or a King, you’re looking good. Also, high suited connectors are decent for a pot steal, as is any pocket pair.
