How Not to Host a Poker Game
I have a friend who made a big poker game mistake that we can all learn from. Let’s call him Johnny. Johnny is an experienced poker player with a reputation as a good sport in our local circles. One night he decided to host a party-about ten of us were over at his house for a little Texas Holdem tourney. Things were going well, some big hands, a lot of excitement, but later in the evening Johnny’s luck began to turn. He got impatient and made a few bets he shouldn’t have, and eventually he became the short stack. There were only a few of us left, and he was just outside the money.
He was playing heads up against a first-timer who had been playing decently all night. Finally, Johnny caught a good pair (Kings with a high kicker) after the flop and went all in. The rookie called him with an Ace high, and Johnny was sitting pretty. After the turn, Johnny was one card away from doubling up his chips. Unfortunately, that one card was the Ace that the rookie needed to win. Now, Johnny could have gotten up and said good game, but this time he decided to throw his chips in the rookie’s face and storm off. Problem was, he hosted the game, so he had not choice but to storm off to his room, where he was stuck until he decided to come out and make a sheepish apology.
Take note-if you want to throw a tantrum, make darn sure that you can leave the place. Or play online poker
